The Business Imperative for Health Promotion
Four decades of research have established an irrefutable connection between lifestyle and health. Persuasive studies have concluded that lifestyle factors including inactivity, obesity, poor nutrition, and tobacco use, account for 40 percent of premature deaths, at least two thirds of cancers, and among women, 91 percent of diabetes and 74 percent of cardiovascular disease. Tobacco use, inactivity and overweight accelerate the onset of disability by nine years and tobacco use alone reduces life span by 10 years.
